Interview with a Dog

New video alert!
Thanks to the joy that is seasonal depression my videos have been pretty sparse for a while...
But this one has been in my head for years now, and I didn't want to waste a beautiful (but cold) day.

I built the pup, Seymour (named after my favorite leading man from Little Shop of Horrors), on a free night nearly two years ago and he's been patiently waiting for his shot since.
We shot this one in Idle Hour Park in Phenix City, AL around their lake and nature trail, and only got a FEW weird looks from their security officer.

The music was performed by my sister, Esther Kinsaul, but was recorded for another project in 2011! Somehow I had the foresight to save the files and finally give them a home in this video!

It's a sweet little video and I'm very happy with how it turned out!
I am working very hurriedly to get this year's Christmas video out in time for the Holiday, so keep an eye open! BUT first two videos for next year have already been produced and uploaded and are just awaiting their release dates!

Christmas Mornings?

After our Ft. Benning Elsa appearance, and a surprise email (still can't tell you about that), Audrey and I didn't get to sleep until very late on Friday night (or is that Saturday morning?) I had one more Christmas event on the books for Saturday morning.

Anyone who knows me knows that I'm not a morning person. People weren't meant to be up so early, if they were mornings would be later in the day. It's just not natural.
To make sure I get up with enough time to get where I'm going I always set a dozen alarms on my phone in 5-minute intervals. This usually works, when I hear the alarms...

So, I woke up Saturday morning for my 8:30 showtime at 9:00. I flew out of bed, threw on my clothes, swore at myself a bit, and took off out the door. I arrived at the event at 9:20, and ran inside with my puppet, and posed for photos for the next few hours.

I made it, it was fine, no one even noticed.
Merry Christmas.

Avery

Is It Christmas Now?

It hadn't felt much like Christmas this year, granted it's been Halloween for me since March (thanks, Slappy), but this event finally made me feel all festive inside! We were on base at Ft. Benning in Columbus, GA at a very special gathering for military families, which made it even more special!

I already know that Audrey is a Princess, but I get very excited when she gets to dress like one and make lots of little girls happy. She made her Elsa costume, for last year's Grinch show that never happened (thanks, weather), and she looks like a million bucks!

I built the new Olaf puppet for the occasion, and I'm pretty darn happy with him! He has a weight an sense of gravity that my other (smaller) Olaf other puppet doesn't. I'll use them both interchangeably depending on the event, but this guy is my current puppet preference!

It was a blast, we met a TON of kids, had some fun with Santa and the Grinch, and even left with some candy. THAT'S a successful party!

After the event, on our drive home, I got an exciting email that I can't tell you about, but I'm sure you'll hear more about later...

The Bob Mckristmas Special has arrived!
Don't say I didn't warn you!

Merry Early Christmas,

Christmas Carolers

Is it finally socially acceptable to get into the Christmas Spirit?
Fun Fact for ya, we shot this video more than 3 years ago, and I've been sitting on the footage since. I've edited and re-edited it on 2 or 3 different occasions, and only just recently put this final version together.
TONS more Christmas content coming your way VERY soon!

Stay Tuned!
Avery

Bob McKristmas!

Do you know Bob McKenzie? He's the host of his own television show (one of those local, and very corny, cable-access kids shows), and promotes (useless) products for BLING CO.
And now he has his own Christmas Special!

We shot this earlier this week and laughed our butts off in the process, can't wait for you to see this Holiday MASTER PIECE!

The new show debuts later this week (as soon as I finish editing it)!

Caroll Spinney

Caroll Spinney, the man behind Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch on Sesame Street for the last 50 years, has announced his retirement from his famous roles.

Truly blessed to have met and spoken with him several years ago, and played a few small parts in a handful of episodes of Sesame alongside him. The Big Bird feather I was given on my first day on The Street is one of my most prized possessions.

Thanks for everything, sir!

Finally found the time for another one of these silly little videos, our way to see Goosebumps 2, of course!

It's Show Time!

Alright friends, I know that I've been spamming you with Goosebumps 2 for months, but now you can finally see it for yourself! It's a fun ride, and has everything a Goosebumps movie should! So far reviews have been pretty darn positive, so if you have the chance check it out, and maybe I'll get to play again on #3!

And, because everyone is asking, no, I'm not the voice in this once either. Though there are 7 or 8 lines of mine that still remain, and the laugh... That's all me ;)

Everyone involved worked their Goosebums (get it) off for 10 months to get this thing to the screen for you, so go show their hard work and sleepless nights some love!
And be sure to stick around until the end of the credits, because the good folks at Sony kindly gave me the last line in the film :)

More soon,
Avery

Goosebumps Premiere Screening!

Forgive the spacey-ness, I'm still trying to play catch-up from the last few weeks. And, hey, it's my blog, I can do what I want!
Goosebumps continues to treat me well and I'm honestly still reeling from the latest (and, for now, the last) adventure...

The film was put together very quickly in relation to the first Goosebumps movie, so rather than a red-carpet premiere a few weeks before the film was officially released, a special screening was put together for the cast, crew, press, studio employees and their families. I was also brought in for some press appearances and a few publicity shoots, but the screening was to be the main focus of my travels!

The schedule of events just so happened to work out (funny isn't it?) that Audrey and I could fly in early to spend a few days in Disneyland and Disney California Adventure parks. We had an awesome time getting to play in another Disney playground for a while.Of course we had to Disney Bound on both days... Disney's always worth dressing up for!  I documented the experience the best that I could, but it was really nice getting to just enjoy the ride. There may be some content to come from the trip in the near future, but until then you can follow us on our Disney-Themed Instagram account Double A Disney!

17 days until I get to marry her.

Our special Goosebumps screening took place on Sunday, October 7th, at the Sony Studios lot, a few sound stages away from where classic films like The Wizard of Oz were filmed. Slappy had a great set-up on stage while a full-scale Halloween carnival was taking place. Slappy was a special meet-and-greet and photo-op for the kids (and kids alike). This meant that I was hidden and contorted underneath a table and a few dozen hay bales, for a few hours, watching everything on a television monitor. Ah, the life of a puppeteer...

Not that I have any complaints at all, it's always cool when I- ahem, Slappy gets treated like the star he thinks he is. I (he) even got to do some press interviews this time around!
Obviously Audrey was there as well, playing Gopher and keeping me sane while looking beautiful as ever in her custom Goosebumps dress she made just a few nights before we left for this whirlwind journey.

It was a legitimately fun time, though I am still finding hay everywhere... And it was very nice getting to see the cast, and some of the crew, again. Nothing but wonderful things to say about all the talented people involved who got this film out into the world, concept to screen, in just TEN MONTHS! I'm absolutely flattered to have been asked to play a part in this awesome event, AND to finally got to put my eyes on the movie (SPOILER ALERT: It is fantastic!)

Also, Audrey is amazing and I don't know what I would do without her.

The next day was full of press appearances, Facebook live streams, a very talkative limo driver, and a flight back into reality.

More (very) soon,
Avery

The final chapter of this Disney adventure has (FINALLY) arrived! I'm sure we'll vlog MANY more of our trips, but it's nice to put this project to bed! It was a LOT more work than I had initially planned, but I am very happy with the final product, maybe you'll learn something from our silliness!

Slappy is VERY Happy!

Please forgive my recent absence, I've been recovering from a very busy two weeks abroad...
Or rather, sleeping a lot because traveling makes me tired...
Either way, I'm back now!

The Goosebumps films (and, yes, even Slappy) have opened some amazing doors for me since February of 2014. If my last two weeks were any indication, there's no sign of that stopping any time soon!

This chapter of my Goosebumps story started in Atlanta, as they often do, where I was involved in a very ambitious one-day shoot for CN. I can't share any details, but it was an absolute blast and the crew was out of this world! Rumor has it that the spot will start running on October 8th, so I'll share more once it get close!

Once that work was done it was off to the airport! Flying immediately into the heart of New York for some more fun! Every time I'm there, it sinks in once again how crazy it is that I get paid to do what I love and dreamed about as a ridiculously shy 12 year old.

What made it even better this time, though, was getting to bring Audrey along with me. She made this time all the more special. We got to see a few Broadway shows, take in the sights, and she even assisted in puppeteering Slappy on a few occasions! I'm incredibly lucky to have such a supportive woman by my side through all this craziness, and to get to spoil her as best I can along the way.
Only 46 days until I get to marry her!

In between all of our crazy adventurings, we had four (LONG) days of shooting in various stages in the city for a handful different ad campaigns with Hulu, Spirit Halloween, Freeform, Scholastic, an a handful of others that I'm sure I'm forgetting. This movie is HUGE, people!

My last day was comprised of 10+ hours of SOLO Slappy work, primarily for International campaigns and the forthcoming Blu-Ray Bonus Features (SUPER pumped about those, by the way...) At the end of the day I hurt all over, my voice was shot, and every muscle in my body ached, but I made it through relatively unscathed... though there was a falling chair incident that Slappy won't permit me to mention...

The cast and crews that came together for all of these shoots are some of the hardest working people out there, and deserve some serious love for executing all of the madness in every little thing we did. I don't now how they did it, but I sure am glad they did!

Twelve days of traveling in style and being treated like a celebrity might have gone to Slappy's head, but not mine... I'm still waiting for someone to realize that I'm just a socially awkward puppeteer and kindly show me to the door. In the meantime, there's lots more work on the horizon, AND I'm (hopefully) releasing a new video or two on later this week, BUT time will tell. Whenever Slappy calls I must answer.

I don't know when I might adjust back to my everyday reality.
Soon, maybe.
But probably not.

Goodnight all,
Avery

She said yes! We are joining forces!
We had a magical trip to Disney World over Memorial Day weekend, and I finally got to ask Audrey to marry me. It was an awesome few days to catch my breath after the last few months of craziness.
One more week of Goosebumps to go and I'll head back to the real world...

Cosplayin'!

The last few weeks have been a complete blur (more on that later...) so rather than making a dozen new posts to play catch-up I figured I'd just make this a DUMP of  the last month of Cosplay that Audrey and I put together!

Believe it or not, this AGENT PEGGY CARTER shoot happened on the same day as our Guardians of the Galaxy photos! Is she versatile or what?
I'm sure a set of vintage Steve Rogers pics will follow shortly...

Rey was a really fun one! We found an awesome spot to take photos in Atlanta Memorial Park that felt like a mix of Rey's home planet Jakku, and The Last Jedi's Ahch-To.
We put the staff together from $30 worth of PVC plumbing parts from The Home Depot, and I roughed up and aged my BB-8 Hero Droid one night after work to match the environment we were shooting in.

Newt and Queenie were another pair that have been along time coming! I really latched onto these characters when I saw Fantastic Beasts in theatres. Like GOTG we've been gathering the costume pieces and props for quite a while, finally seizing the opportunity yet again in the Georgian Terrace Hotel in Atlanta. Pretty swanky, huh?

And finally, last and least, my Tower of terror Bellhop. With a Disney trip on the horizon, and having lived in a beautiful old hotel since February, I couldn't pass up this awesome photo-op!
I do hope I didn't spook too many people...

These were a lot of fun to put together, shoot, and edit!
Granted, Audrey did most of the work, but I had a lot of fun watching her do her thing!
We had a few more in the works, but my filming schedule didn't allow the time to shoot them... But I'm sure those will rear their heads sooner rather than later.

That's all for now but I'm sure there will be much more to follow soon,
Avery

Hooked on a Feelin'!

It's been a while since I've posted here, quite honestly I'd forgotten I even have a blog...
But this was too fun not share right away!
The movie schedule has been kicking my butt lately, and putting a halt to all of my personal projects... until today, that is!

I've posted before about my love of the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, props, and characters so this project has been a long time coming. Audrey and I have both been collecting props and costume pieces for well over a year. And today we finally did something about it!

My filming schedule has been PACKED in the last few weeks, so I am sooo happy to have found some down-time on my day off to take a few pictures with my favorite gal... more than 150, to be exact!
We took all of our photos in the lowest level of the parking deck at the Georgian Terrace Hotel in Atlanta, where I'm staying for the duration of Goosebumps 2 shoot.
You've got to work with what you've got!

I haven't had much time for "ME" projects in a month or so but our Groot prop was a quick and easy $5 project. I found quite a few Walmart Exclusive Vol. 2 Groot figures on a sale aisle and finally nabbed him after a year of (not so) patiently waiting for him to get discounted. A few coats of paint and a roll of paper towels later he's looking much more wooden (in a good way) and was a neat little addition to our pictures!

We are both thrilled with how this project turned out, (although Audrey will probably be washing green paint out of her hair for the next few months...)
We filmed Audrey's FULL two and a half hour make-up process and will be posting a time-lapse video of that in the very near future. .
I'm sure I'll put some more pics and video out, too... whenever there's time...
Can't wait for our next set of photos, which we are already plotting, and should be coming along very VERY shortly...

More soon,
Avery

2 Years!

SAPPY POST ALERT!

March 3rd marked TWO YEARS with my girl!
Things in my world were pretty grey before she got here. I don't know where I'd be if we hadn't found each other when we did.
There's no way to list all the things she's done for me and been to me.
She's a Princess, a Superhero, and anything else she wants to be.
She's taught me that I can be anything, too.
This year is going to be a GREAT one!

Last Weeks Projects

I've been up to my eyeballs in puppets the last few days, it's been crazy but at least I've finally gotten my head back into the building game! Good thing, too, life is about to get CRAZY again!
Though, I probably shouldn't talk about that...

Here's some of what I have been up to, that I CAN talk about:

On last week's post (I think) I'd said that I'd built a character that I couldn't make post about at the time, but now that he's officially been revealed to the world, I can proudly share the new and improved Sam the Ham!
If you don't know about Sam and his pals, definitely go check out their YT channel to see this guy and his kooky friends in action!

Built these two for Treehouse Puppet Co., based on some store-bought characters that were due for an upgrade!
They'll be used in some new TV shows and online content shooting later this year. I'll be sure to share it when it hits!

Made this shaggy fella for my eBay store, but he got snatched up by one of my favorite costumers as a gift for her (quite accomplished) son!
I've had this fur for a few months and have been dying to make something out of it, this guy was totally worth the wait!

Another one for the eBay store that was purchased before he even hit the virtual shelves!
This guy's fur was a first attempt at a fabric dyeing job that didn't quite come out like I'd wanted, but I'm happy to see it came in handy somewhere!

That's all for now. Or at least for the next 10 minutes or so...
TWO more characters on the build table this afternoon before I head out on a MASSIVE adventure tomorrow evening!
Oops, really shouldn't have said that...

More soon (but you didn't hear that from me),

So Far This Year

I won't lie, it's been tough to get back into a productive groove in 2018...
I'll spare you the boring details, but I've been dealing with a lot of negative BRAIN STUFF for the past few months that has pulled my focus, and kept me from being my typical productive self.
I've only been able to get a few orders out in the last 45 days, with a few more on the build table, that I am unintentionally ignoring as I type this....

But rather than focusing on that, I'd like to show off what I HAVE been able to accomplish in the last month and 14 days!

Isn't she cute? She thinks so!
Built this cute little gal for a client in just under a week from a pair of costume leg warmers!
And check out that cute CUSTOM costume by Creatively Audrey!
I do love making monsters, and this has been one of my favorites from the past few months.

This guy look familiar?
I built this guy as a full-body ventriloquist-style puppet for a client based on the design in my December Grinch video.
Between Grinch and my Monster Mash puppets, my video designs have been my most requested customs lately... Wonder why that is...
It's been a while since I've built anything VENT-style, and I've really missed this breed of puppet.

And there's ONE MORE custom client build that I'm very excited about but I am unable share with you just yet. But keep an eye out for an update on that in the (near) future!

That's all I have for now, I will do my best to keep this Blog as up-to-date as possible in the coming weeks. There is some CRAZY cool stuff is on the way (if I can share that cool stuff with you is another issue entirely...)

More soon,
Avery
